A Troubled Tenure
Shooh Nath Singh’s career began with promise in 2003 when he joined the Uttar Pradesh judicial services as an Additional Munsif, eventually rising to Civil Judge Senior Division by 2008. However, things took a downturn between 2010 and 2011 when his Annual Confidential Report noted negative remarks, and oral complaints of dishonesty and corruption began to emerge. These issues culminated in a suspension in 2013, though Singh was later cleared of charges and reinstated with full back pay in 2014.
Lingering Concerns
Despite his reinstatement, doubts over Singh’s professional conduct persisted. In 2017, while serving as Secretary of the Mahoba District Legal Services Authority, his performance came under scrutiny again, leading to another suspension in 2019. Although exonerated in 2020, the recurring concerns about his integrity remained a shadow over his record.
Final Decision
In September 2021, the Administrative Committee of the High Court recommended Singh’s compulsory retirement, citing his questionable track record. The state government acted promptly on this recommendation, deciding that his service no longer met the high ethical standards required of a judge.
