In a moment of pride for the Indian judiciary, Justice Manmohan, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, was officially sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court on Thursday. His elevation to the apex court follows the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation on November 28, which received swift approval from the Central government on December 3.
Justice Manmohan’s illustrious journey to the Supreme Court reflects decades of dedication to the legal profession. Born on December 17, 1962, his life has been a testament to hard work and excellence. After earning his LLB from the prestigious Campus Law Centre in Delhi in 1987, he wasted no time registering with the Bar Council of Delhi. Over the years, he built a reputation as a distinguished advocate, practicing extensively before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court.
Recognized for his sharp legal mind, he was appointed Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in 2003—a milestone in any lawyer's career. His transition from advocacy to the bench began on March 13, 2008, when he was appointed as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court. His commitment and expertise saw his position made permanent in 2009.
September 2023 marked another milestone as he was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, later confirmed as Chief Justice in September 2024. In these roles, he upheld the highest standards of justice, earning widespread respect and admiration.
Now, with his induction, the Supreme Court of India stands stronger with 33 sitting judges, just one short of its full strength of 34. Justice Manmohan's appointment not only brings a wealth of experience to the apex court but also reinforces the nation’s trust in its judiciary.
