In a disturbing turn of events, the Rajasthan Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Ravindra Kumar, a judicial magistrate in Hindaun city, following grave allegations made by a Dalit gang rape survivor.
The survivor accused the magistrate of asking her to undress in the courtroom to show her injuries, an act that has sparked widespread outrage and concern over the conduct of judicial authorities.
The FIR, lodged under Section 345 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to wrongful confinement, also invokes provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (SC/ST Act), highlighting the seriousness of the magistrate’s alleged actions and the vulnerable position of the survivor.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 30, when the survivor visited the court to record her statement regarding the gang rape she had endured. According to the survivor’s account in the FIR, after providing her statement, she was unexpectedly called back by Magistrate Kumar, who then demanded she remove her clothing to allow him to inspect her injuries.
The survivor’s recount in the FIR vividly details the distressing interaction, stating, “The magistrate had called me to take my statement. I gave the full statement. I started coming out. Then he called me back, then he asked me to take off my clothes, then I said why should I take off my clothes, then he said that he wanted to see the injury marks on my body. I said I can’t open my clothes in front of you and if madam were there, I would have taken off my clothes.”
