Delhi Bar Council Strikes Off 100+ Fake Lawyers, Licenses Cancelled

In a sweeping crackdown on fraudulent enrolments, the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) has permanently removed the names of over 100 individuals from its roll of advocates after their degrees and certificates were found to be fake. The action, taken between June 2023 and September 2025, follows directives from the Bar Council of India (BCI) and has led to the cancellation of licenses to practice law with immediate effect.

How It Unfolded

The fraud came to light after several universities confirmed that the LL.B degrees, graduation mark sheets, and even school certificates submitted by the advocates were forged. A Sub-Committee of the BCI conducted inquiries, and its decisions were later ratified by the General Council of BCI, giving final approval to the removals.

The BCD notifications, signed by its Secretary Col. Arun Sharma (Retd.), cited enrolment by “misrepresentation” as the reason for striking off these names.

Fake Degrees Exposed

The verification drive uncovered shocking cases:

Mr. Joginder Chawla – fake B.Com degree.

Mr. Sahibey Alam – fake Senior Secondary certificate.

Mr. Vaibhav Chauhan – fake 10th & 12th mark sheets.

Mr. Shiv Dutt Bakshi, Mr. Saket Kumar, and Mr. Pawan Kumar – fake B.A. degrees.

In some unusual cases, individuals like Mr. Raghunath K. and Mr. Rumman Mati surrendered their enrolment certificates voluntarily, while proceedings against others ended due to their deaths.

Firm Stand Against Fraud

Declaring the removals, the BCD said: “The names of these persons have been removed permanently from the Roll of the Bar Council of Delhi and their license to practice stands cancelled with immediate effect.”

To ensure none of the disqualified persons continue to appear in courts, the BCD circulated the notifications to the Supreme Court, all High Courts, District & Sessions Judges, police authorities, and Bar Associations across the country. Bar associations have also been directed to display the notifications publicly.

Why it matters: This move sends a strong message—fraudulent entry into the legal profession will not be tolerated. The BCD’s decisive action not only protects the integrity of the bar but also safeguards clients and the justice system from being misled by fake advocates.
